Just because there is snow on the ground doesn’t mean you can’t get in some exercise outdoors. Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing is a way to enjoy the scenic outdoors and exercise while you do it. There are several miles of beautiful trails near Sault Ste Marie to ski or snowshoe. Algonquin Ski Trails have 9 miles of groomed, lit trails for day or night-time use located on W 16th Ave. Chi Mukwa (Big Bear) is a 1.4 mile trail through the woods with snowshoe rental available (unlit). Sault Seal Recreation Area has an unlit cross country ski trail for day use at 2601 Minneapolis St with heated chalet and concessions on site. Sault Seal Rec Area also has additional permitted activities available including tubing, sledding, and snowboarding. Hours of operation are Tue-Fri 4-8 PM and Sat-Sun 1-8 PM.
